Ex racetracks of Punta Fría
- Get to know it in 5 minutes
In March 1952 the racetracks of Punta Fría were inaugurated, when the Grand National Tourism Award Committee was held, consisting of 65 laps for a total distance of 152 kilometers and 599 meters. It was Juan Manuel Fangio who won that year, competing in a Ferrari 2000 cc with compressor.
It was the most important attraction of the first decades after the death of Francisco Piria. It was built at the site where there was previously a golf course. It was 2350 meters long and had a width ranging between 12 and 14 meters. Its layout answered the purpose of balancing the ability of the racers with the rising power of the machines running. In the mid 70s it was deprecated.
The track layout is still preserved, although mostly covered by grass and weeds as well as being private property. Its layout can still be seen from atop the San Antonio hill.
