Pueblo Gregorio Aznárez

  • Place
A town located on Route 9 (km 86), it was founded in 1902 and its name pays homage to the Agronomist who installed the RAUSA sugar mill in the town in 1891, which was for many years the main source of employment for the population. Until 1980, it supported the institutions of the town and was the main economic source of its population. After its closure it was replaced by a corn processing industry that lasted until 1997. Currently the site itself is a tourist attraction, a faithful witness to the history of the country. It offers a small Museum - Interpretation Center as well as the opportunity to carry out three ecotourism circuits together with local nature guides: Camino Real (low difficulty and three hours long), Cerro Blanco (medium difficulty and three hours long) and Cerro Betete (high difficulty and five hours long). All tours are conducted with guides from the Búhos Reales group, who must be contacted to coordinate tours: (+598) 98.237.767 / www.aznarezunlugardiferente.com.uy
